London, England will  play host to the first leg of the Ultimate Fighting Championships 2014 “European Tour.”

Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed the news last night on BT Sport’s weekly UFC show ‘Beyond the Octagon’. Fertitta spoke about the plans with great excitement as he revealed that the tour would see the UFC make a significant step in making European events significantly better.

“It is going to be a significant event and we are really excited that we are going to be in Europe on a consistent basis. We are going to find some incredibly talented fighters from various countries in this market that someday will be UFC champions.”

It had initially been expected that the UFC would return to Stockholm,Sweden in the first quarter of 2014 but it now looks likely that, if fit, Alexander Gustafsson may headline the March event in England. Dana White confirmed the plan for this to happen earlier this week.

The other cities being considered for the tour include Dublin, Berlin, Glasgow, Lodz, Istanbul and Lodz according to Garry Cook who spoke today at the Leaders Sports Summit in London. Cook, who is the managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa didn’t mention Sweden in his speech but it is also likely on the table according to UFC sources.

The UFC return to England when they hit Manchester on October 26. The original main event was scheduled to be Michael Bisping vs Mark Munoz, but with an injury to the Englishman, Munoz will now meet former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. The UFC were last in London in February when Renan Barao submitted Michael Mcdonald.
