UFC 159 starts to take shape with 4 bouts added
The main event of UFC 159 as many fans know, is the Light Heavyweight title fight between the current set of TUF coaches, Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen but today it has emerged who will be underneath them on this card.
Announced for the co-main event is a Middleweight battle between TUF season 3 winner Michael Bisping and Rufous Sport stand out Alan Belcher. Bisping is coming off a recent TKO loss to Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 7 in which Bisping was finished in the second round. Belcher meanwhile was part of the UFC 155 card where he was on a one sided decision loss to Japanese Middleweight, Yushin Okami. Both fighters will be looking to propel themselves back in to title contention.
Also added was an intriguing Lightweight fight between Strikeforce star Pay Healy and New Jersey’s own Jim Miller. Healy comes in on the back of a 6 fight win streak which saw him beat the likes of Maximo Blanco and Caros Fodor. Miller enters on the back of his fight of the year contender battle with Joe Lauzon at UFC 155. Miller put in one of the best performances of his career on his way to a decision victory.
A Heavyweight fight between TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson and French kickboxing ace Cheick Kongo has also been added to the card. Kongo made it know earlier this month that he would like to fight Nelson and it seems as if the Paris native got his wish. Kongo was last seen in action in a decision win over Shawn Jordan at UFC 149. A fight in which Dana White was heavily critical of his performance. Nelson meanwhile recorded his second win at the back end of 2012 by beating Matt Mitrione in December.
The final bout announced was between BJJ wizard Vinny Magalhaes and wrestling stand out Phil Davis. Magalhaes took to Twitter at the beginning of December to try and call out Davis when Forrest Griffin got injured. Davis didn’t take the fight and this set Vinny to take to Twitter and call him out some more. Davis will want to shut the skilled Brazilian up once and for all. Magalhaes made his UFC return at UFC 152 when he submitted Igor Pokrajac, Davis meanwhile fought Wagner Prado and beat him by submission at UFC 153.
UFC 159 is set for April 27 and will go down at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey
