Roger Gracie vs Anthony Smith on tap for January 12 Strikeforce event
Strikeforce’s injury hit January card has a new fight.
6 time World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion Roger Gracie (5-1) will meet Anthony Smith (17-8) in what is being billed as Strikeforce’s last event. MMAOpinion.co.uk has confirmed the fight with sources close to the fight although Strikeforce have yet to confirm the fight.
Gracie last fought in July when he successfully made the transition to the Middleweight division for the first time by dominating Keith Jardine in a decision victory. Prior to that Gracie suffered the first and only defeat of his career, a knockout loss to King Mo Lawal.
Smith meanwhile has won 3 fights in a row including an impressive first round submission stoppage of Lumumba Sayers on a Strikeforce event in August this year. Prior to that he had picked up wins elsewhere including an impressive performance at Victory Fighting Championship 37. This will be Smith’s fourth fight under the Strikeforce banner going 1-2 so far.
Strikeforce: Champions is scheduled for January 12 at the Oklahoma and will feature a Welterweight title fight between Nate Marquardt and Tarec Saffiediene. Also on the card, Daniel Cormier will fight Dion Staring.
