Ole ‘Iron Fist’ Laursen to meet Giorgio ‘The Doctor’ Petrosyan in Rome, March 2013

Updated: November 22, 2012

In a shock to the kickboxing world, Ole Laursen is now facing Glory Lightweight Champion, Giorgio Petrosyan on Saturday March 2nd 2013, Rome, Italy. The event is Main Evented by this fight and is being put on by Gottipromotion of Italy.  The event takes place at the PalaTrieste with an 8:00 pm local start time. Ticket prices range from 15 to 70 Euros per person.

Laursen is Filipino but he was raised in Denmark by his mother, with his 2 brothers. He is a man who has been in kickboxing and striking for most of his life and competed in many K-1 and Super League tournaments over the years. He amassed a kickboxing record of 34 wins (10 by KO) and 19 losses before becoming a mixed martial artist. Since winning the Main Event at One FC’s War of the Lions over URCC Welterweight Champion, Eduard Folayang, Ole has not fought since. It looks like this will be the opportunity of a lifetime for Ole to face Petrosyan.

Ole and I spoke about this fight today and he said this about his time in ONE FC:

“The good thing is that it has brought me to the fight with Giorgio, I’m a fan of his (as are most around the world),  and  I know there aren’t many who will give me a chance in this fight, but I believe in myself.

I’m fighting the man that has beat the best of the best. As crazy as it sounds I’m fighting for the chance to beat him, and it would be fucking amazing.”

Giorgio Petrosyan just won the GLORY Lightweight Tournament in his hometown in Rome on November 3rd. In one night he defeated Ky Hollenbeck, Davit Kiria and Robin van Roosmalen to win the $300,000 grand prize and the new championship belt. Petrosyan is the best in the world at 70kg and has an unbelievable record of 74 wins (34 by KO/TKO) 1 loss, 2 draws and one No Contest.

Petrosyan is rumored to have a fight for GLORY at the New Year’s Eve Dream 18 event, but nothing has been officially announced yet.
